TITLE: BUS ASSISTANT
DEPARTMENT: Transportation
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card within forty-five (45) days of employment.
- Two years experience in working with students is preferred.
- Must currently possess (or have the ability to obtain upon hire) CPR, AED and First Aid certifications.
- Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
JOB GOALS:
The Bus Assistant, under the direction of the Director of Transportation, accompanies the Bus Driver and provides assistance, guidance and supervision to students with varying levels of disability (ranging from none to severe) and facilitates rider safety during transportation to and from school and during other special events such as field trips.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Complies with all HIPAA and FERPA related confidentiality requirements.
- Develops positive relations with students, parents, school staff and the public.
- Supervises and assists students on the bus while enroute to and from school and during other special events.
- Assists at the schools to ensure safe onboarding and offboarding of students.
- Assists during school field trips.
- Assists in communication with parents, and students as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of:
- District policies, operations and organization.
- Interpersonal skills including tact, courtesy, and diplomacy.
- Communication (telephone, email, etc.) etiquette.
- The proper use of the English language.
- Child behavior.
- Related Dept of Transportation safety protocol.
Skill and Ability to:
- Work cooperatively with others and provide a high level of customer service.
- Establish work priorities to meet schedules and timelines.
- Work with, assist and supervise students with varying degrees of emotional and behavioral handicaps.
- Maintain all pertinent safety protocols during the transportation of students.

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Transportation in accordance with the provisions of Governing Board policy in evaluation of classified personnel.
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: 9 or 10 months (depending on assignment)
SALARY: Salary for the position is set according to the Classified Salary Schedule determined by the Governing Board.
