TITLE: SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST ASSISTANT (SLPA)              PRELIMINARY

DEPARTMENT: Special Services

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must possess a valid Speech Language Pathologist Assistant License, issued by the Arizona Department of Health Services.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with students, faculty, and parents, so that all parties understand the program and degree of progress being made.
  3. Must possess or be able to obtain within forty-five (45) days of employment, a valid Arizona Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.

JOB GOALS: 

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) is responsible to evaluate, diagnose, and treat students with speech or language disorders, to formulate and implement individualized treatment programs, keep appropriate records, and inform faculty and parents about students' progress.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following tasks are essential for this position.  This list is not inclusive of all responsibilities.  Individuals may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed.

  1. Conduct speech and language screenings without interpretation, using screening protocols specified by the supervising speech-language pathologist. 
  2. Document student progress toward meeting established goals as stated in individualized education plans without interpretation of the findings, and reports this information to the supervising speech-language pathologist. 
  3. Assist the speech-language pathologist in the collecting and tallying of data for assessment purposes, without interpretation of the data. 
  4. Assist with informal documentation during an intervention session by collecting and tallying data as directed by the speech-language pathologist, preparing materials and assisting with other clerical duties as specified by the supervising speech-language pathologist. 
  5. Sign and initial treatment notes for review and co-signature by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

  1. Engage and encourage communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
  2. Implement educational policies and procedures.

  4. Enforce student management procedures.

  6. Create effective relationships with District staff, vendors, and the community.
  7. Provide excellent customer service.
  8. Supervise students when assigned.

  1. Sit for extended periods of time.
  2. Enter data into a computer terminal/typewriter, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone.
  3. See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids.

  5. Occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Special Services in accordance with the provisions of Governing Board policy in evaluation of classified personnel.

 

TERMS OF 

EMPLOYMENT: 9 Months

 

SALARY: Salary for the position is set according to the Classified (Hourly) Salary Schedule determined by the Governing Board.
